Help and solutions:

Everything you need to know Yellow Sticky Traps for Fungus Gnats - Fungus Gnats - Double-Sided

What are these yellow traps made of?

These traps are made from a rigid plastic base coated with non-toxic entomological glue on both sides.

This special adhesive remains effective over time without drying out, even in humid environments near the substrate. It contains no insecticides or harmful substances.

The bright yellow color is obtained by pigmenting the support, calibrated to match the light spectrum that naturally attracts dipterans such as fungus gnats.

You can use them with confidence near your edible plants or in a home with children and pets.

How to install the traps correctly?

Carefully remove the protective film from both sticky sides. Plant the trap vertically in the substrate, near the base of your plant.

This position is strategic because adult fungus gnats generally stay close to the substrate where they lay their eggs. By placing the trap at this level, you intercept the females before they lay their eggs.

For a pot less than 15 cm in diameter, one trap is sufficient. For larger pots, place two or three traps around the plant. Check them weekly and replace them as soon as they are covered with insects.

Avoid touching the sticky surface with your fingers, as this will reduce its effectiveness.

Are fungus gnats dangerous to my plants?

The flying adults are primarily a visual nuisance, but it's their larvae that pose the problem. These small white worms live in the substrate and feed on decaying organic matter.

In cases of severe infestation, the larvae also attack young roots and rootlets, weakening your plants. Symptoms include stunted growth, yellowing foliage, and a general lack of vigor.

Young plants, cuttings and seedlings are particularly vulnerable because their root system is still fragile.

Acting quickly with traps makes it possible to break the reproductive cycle by capturing the adults before they lay eggs.

My traps aren't catching many flies, is that normal?

Several factors can explain a low capture rate. If your traps remain empty, it may simply mean that the infestation is light, which is good news.

First, check that you have removed the protective film from both sides. Also, make sure that the traps are positioned at substrate level and not high up in the foliage.

Light plays an important role: in a very dark place, the attraction of yellow light is less effective. Move your plants closer to a light source if possible.

If you see flies but they are avoiding the traps, the problem may be caused by insects other than fungus gnats. Observe their size and behavior to identify the species.

Which products should be combined to completely eliminate fungus gnats?

The yellow traps capture the flying adults, but for total eradication, it is also necessary to eliminate the larvae hidden in the substrate.

THESteinernema feltiae nematodesThey are the ideal complement. These beneficial microorganisms parasitize and kill fungus gnat larvae without harming your plants. The combination of traps and nematodes attacks the problem on two fronts.

As for prevention, space out your waterings to avoid a constantly damp substrate which encourages egg-laying.sprayerIt allows the foliage to be moistened without soaking the substrate.

Add a thin layer of sand or perlite on the surface to discourage females from laying eggs.

How does this differ from other methods for treating sciatica?

Yellow traps offer a passive, mechanical approach, unlike insecticides which act chemically. They allow you to monitor the level of infestation while reducing the adult population.

Against nematodes that target underground larvae, traps complement the action by capturing flying adults. The two methods are complementary rather than competitive.

Compared to repellent sprays, traps have the advantage of being odorless and operating 24/7 without intervention. They don't stress your plants and leave no residue on the foliage.

The main advantage is its simplicity: no preparation, no measuring required, just plant and let it do its work. Ideal if you're new to pest control.

The essentials regarding Yellow Sticky Traps for Fungus Gnats - Fungus Gnats - Double-Sided

What are yellow fungus gnat traps?

THEyellow fungus gnat trapsThese are double-sided adhesive panels designed to capture fungus gnats and other harmful flying insects as soon as they appear on your houseplants. Their bright yellow color naturally attracts adult fungus gnats, whose larvae develop in the moist substrate and silently attack the roots. Each panel is coated with a non-toxic, long-lasting adhesive that is effective against a wide range of flying insects.

What are yellow chromatic traps used for on your plants?

THEdouble-sided sticky trapIt captures fungus gnats on both sides simultaneously, multiplying the area of attraction around the pot. Placed directly in the substrate or suspended a few centimeters from the leaves, it visibly reduces a fungus gnat infestation in 7 to 10 days. It also helps detect other pests early, such as whiteflies or leafhoppers, well before an infestation becomes established.

Which plants benefit most from yellow sticky traps?

  • Pothos and Philodendron:Protection against fungus gnats in moist substrate
  • Calathea and Marantaceae:active monitoring in fresh substrates
  • Monstera and Araceae:rapid detection after recent repotting
  • Sowing and cuttings:preservation of young, still fragile roots
  • Ficus and dense plants:discreet detection of a hidden infestation

Yellow traps or anti-sciarid nematodes: which solution to choose?

Yellow traps and fungus gnat nematodes are two complementary approaches to the biological control of fungus gnats. The traps capture flying adults and break the reproductive cycle on the surface. The nematodes, natural microorganisms invisible to the naked eye that penetrate the larvae present in the substrate, act deeper within the soil. To get rid of fungus gnats naturally and permanently, combining the two remains the most effective strategy, especially in cases of infestation that have been established for several weeks.
