WHAT TYPE OF SOIL IS NEEDED FOR TRADESCANTIA?

Tradescantia thrive in a well-drained potting mix enriched with organic matter.

An ideal mix could consist of French potting soil enriched with essential nutrients and perlite to ensure good drainage while retaining the necessary moisture.

Adding well-decomposed compost can provide additional nutrition.

Ensure the pot has several drainage holes to avoid the risk of root rot.

We recommend using our " Universal Substrate " which will perfectly suit the needs of Tradescantia Nanouk!

HOW TO WATER A NANOUK?

Watering a Tradescantia Nanouk requires a moderate approach to avoid overwatering.

During the summer, the period of active growth, water the plant when the substrate is dry throughout . Make sure it is completely dry several centimeters below the soil surface.

In winter, drastically reduce the frequency of watering , allowing the substrate to dry out completely for several weeks between waterings.

Using water at room temperature is preferable to avoid shocking sensitive roots.

A good rule of thumb is to check the substrate moisture once a week and adjust your watering according to the temperature and light conditions in your home.

Be careful never to leave the plant in stagnant water , as this could lead to root rot.

HOW TO PROPAGATE A TRADESCANTIA NANOUK?

To propagate your Tradescantia Nanouk, choose a healthy stem with at least two nodes.

Cut just below a knot with clean, sharp pruning shears.

You can remove the lower leaves to prevent them from sitting in water or soil, which could promote rot.

For cuttings in water, place the stem in a container filled with water, ensuring that the nodes are submerged.

Change the water every week to prevent algae growth.

If you prefer to plant cuttings directly in potting soil, use a light and well-drained mix , plant the stem making sure that the nodes are buried.

Keep the potting mix slightly moist but not soggy, and place the cutting in a warm spot with indirect light. Roots should appear within 2 to 3 weeks.

HOW TO PREVENT AND TREAT PESTS?

Tradescantias are susceptible to attack by aphids, mites and sometimes scale insects.

Prevent infestations by maintaining good air circulation around the plant and avoiding excessive humidity.

Regularly inspect the undersides of leaves and between stems to detect early signs of infestation.

If pests are present, isolate the infested plant to prevent the spread to neighboring plants.

A gentle treatment can be carried out by cleaning the leaves with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol or by applying a diluted organic insecticidal soap. Many recipes exist that use black soap.

HERE ARE OUR EXPERT ADVICE:

  1. Choose a bright location but avoid direct sunlight.

  2. Allow the substrate to dry out thoroughly between waterings.

  3. Avoid temperatures below 10°C.

  4. Fertilize moderately during the growth period.

  5. Take regular cuttings to revitalize the plant and promote dense growth .

  6. Inspect regularly to prevent pest infestations.

  7. Use a clear pot with drainage holes with our Universal Substrate for good drainage.
