What is the Pon substrate in this kit made of?

Pon is a mixture of natural minerals: zeolite, pumice stone and volcanic lava.

These materials are chosen for their complementary properties: zeolite retains nutrients and regulates humidity, pumice stone ensures lightness and aeration, lava provides structure and stability.

Unlike organic substrates, Pon does not decompose or compact over time. Rinse it between uses to remove mineral deposits.

Warning: as this substrate is inert, the fertilizer included in this duo is essential to feed your plants.

How to use this duo to convert a plant to hydroponics?

Start by gently removing your plant from its current pot and carefully rinse its roots with lukewarm water to remove any residue of organic substrate.

This step is crucial because soil remnants can rot in the hydroponic system and contaminate the water. Inspect the roots and trim any that appear damaged.

Place the Pon in a suitable container, plant it, and water with diluted fertilizer. During the first few weeks, monitor the plant's adaptation: a few yellowing leaves are normal during this transition.

Avoid converting a plant that is already weakened; it would not tolerate this change well.

Which plants are best suited to cultivation in Pon?

Plants with robust and adaptable roots thrive particularly well: Pothos, Philodendron, Monstera, Syngonium and most aroids.

These species naturally tolerate humid environments and readily develop aquatic roots. Succulents and cacti also thrive, but require more rigorous moisture management.

Allow a 2- to 4-week acclimation period during which the plant develops new roots adapted to this environment. Maintain adequate light to support this transition.

Plants with very fine roots, such as Calatheas, may have more difficulty adapting.

My plant has been losing leaves since switching to Pon, what should I do?

Leaf loss in the first few weeks is common and generally normal: the plant sacrifices foliage to concentrate its energy on developing new, adapted roots.

This transition stress is comparable to moving house. However, check that the roots are not completely submerged; only the lower part should be immersed.

Also, make sure you're using the correct fertilizer dosage: too concentrated, it will burn the roots; too diluted, the plant will lack nutrients. Wait 3-4 weeks before worrying.

If the deterioration continues beyond this point, check for root rot by smelling the water.

Can I use this fertilizer with substrates other than Pon?

This fertilizer is formulated for inert growing media where the plant is entirely dependent on liquid fertilization. You can use it with other mineral substrates such as pure perlite, clay pebbles, or seramis.

On the other hand, combining it with an organic substrate such as ourenriched potting soilsThis risks creating over-fertilization. These substrates already contain nutrients and microorganisms that naturally nourish plants.
