About
Anthurium Forgetii, the velvety gem of the Colombian forests
Anthurium Forgetii, also known as Anthurium forgetii or "sinusless anthurium", is a tropical plant native to the humid forests of Colombia, belonging to the Araceae family. Its most remarkable botanical feature is the complete absence of sinuses at the base of the blade, giving it entirely oval leaves, unique among Anthuriums.
Its foliage is a deep green with a velvety feel, crisscrossed by white or silver veins of remarkable precision. Each adult leaf can reach 30 to 40 cm in length when grown indoors. Its naturally epiphytic growth habit allows it, in its native habitat, to cling to tree trunks by suspending its leaves downwards, creating a spectacular graphic effect in a hanging pot or placed on a plant stand.
Our Anthurium Forgetii is available for delivery, carefully packaged to travel safely to your home. Order it today to add this botanical rarity to your collection.

Help and solutions:
Everything you need to know Anthurium forgetii
What light exposure is best for my Anthurium Forgetii?
The Anthurium Forgetii prefers bright, indirect light, protected from direct sunlight.
In its natural Colombian habitat, it grows under the tree canopy, receiving filtered and diffused light. Indoors, a distance of 1 to 2 meters from a well-exposed window is ideal. An east or west orientation is perfectly suitable, while a south-facing window requires a sheer curtain in summer.
In autumn and winter, move the plant closer to the window to compensate for the decrease in natural light. Avoid placing it in a hallway or a room without windows.
Important tip 🌿Even a few hours of direct sunlight a day is enough to cause irreversible burns on the velvety foliage of the Anthurium Forgetii. For dimly lit rooms, our grow light for indoor plants faithfully mimics natural light, without harmful UV rays.
Is the Anthurium Forgetii toxic to animals and children?
Anthurium Forgetii is toxic to cats, dogs, and young children.
Like all members of the Araceae family, it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals in all its parts: leaves, stems, and roots. These microscopic crystals cause immediate mechanical irritation of the mucous membranes upon contact or ingestion.
In case of ingestion, possible symptoms include irritation and swelling of the mouth, throat, and digestive tract, nausea, excessive salivation, and difficulty swallowing. These symptoms are generally moderate but unpleasant.
What precautions should be taken on a daily basis?
Place your Anthurium Forgetii out of reach of pets and young children. A plant stand or wall shelf are good display solutions.
In case of suspected ingestion, promptly consult a veterinarian or your local poison control center. With appropriate precautions, it is still perfectly possible to keep it in the home.
Why are my Anthurium Forgetii leaves turning yellow?
Anthurium Forgetii leaves most often turn yellow due to overwatering, insufficient light, or a nutrient deficiency.
If the leaves turn yellow and become limp, the problem is generally caused by too much water, which leads to the early stages of root rot.
If the leaves gradually turn yellow while remaining firm and dry, the plant is often lacking light or fertilizer.
If the yellowing is accompanied by small light-colored spots, a dull appearance, or fine webbing, it may be a spider mite infestation, which is common indoors, especially in dry conditions.
Anthurium Forgetii is an epiphyte and is particularly sensitive to a substrate that is too compact or retains too much water: its roots need air to function properly, and any root suffocation quickly results in yellowing foliage.
Important tip 🌿One or two old leaves turning yellow from time to time is completely normal. However, you should be concerned if several leaves turn yellow quickly or if the problem spreads to the young leaves.
When and how should I repot my Anthurium forgetii?
The Anthurium Forgetii is ideally repotted in spring, between March and May, when growth actively resumes.
After receiving it, let your plant acclimate to its environment for 2 to 3 weeks before repotting, in order to limit stress.
Repotting is necessary when:
roots grow out of the drainage holes,
growth slows down,
or the potting mix compacts too quickly after watering.
As a general rule, repotting every 2 years is sufficient for an adult plant.
As the Anthurium Forgetii is an epiphyte, its roots need a very airy potting mix and a pot with walls that allow good airflow: avoid pots that are too wide, which promote moisture stagnation.
Gently remove the plant from its pot, tapping the pot if necessary.
Gently untangle the roots if they are very compacted, without breaking them.
Place a layer of potting mix, position the plant upright, and fill in without burying the crown.
Important tip 🌿After repotting, water to help settle the potting mix. Repotting every two years is sufficient.
When and how should I fertilize my Anthurium forgetii?
The Anthurium Forgetii should be fertilized every 2 to 3 weeks from March to October, using a liquid fertilizer diluted in the watering water.
From November to February, reduce fertilization significantly or stop it altogether. This is the plant's vegetative rest period.
Properly dosed fertilization promotes:
denser, more vibrant foliage,
steady growth,
and greater plant resilience.
As the Anthurium Forgetii is sensitive to the accumulation of mineral salts in its growing medium, it is advisable to use slightly less than the recommended dose and to water thoroughly once a month to flush the medium.
Important tip 🌿Never fertilize a dry growing medium, as this could burn the roots. Water first, then apply the fertilizer 2 to 3 days later.
How to properly water my Anthurium Forgetii?
Water the Anthurium Forgetii when the potting mix has dried out thoroughly, approximately every 7 to 10 days in summer and every 10 to 15 days in winter. Use room-temperature water.
How do you know when to water?
The finger test remains the most reliable method: insert your index finger 2 to 3 cm into the potting mix. If the mix is dry, it is time to water.
The Anthurium Forgetii, an epiphyte in its natural environment, absorbs moisture from the air as well as from the potting mix: maintaining high humidity (60 to 80%) reduces the need for frequent watering and significantly improves the quality of its velvety foliage.
Important tip: If in doubt, wait rather than watering. Plants tolerate a lack of water better than an excess, which causes root rot.
How do I propagate my Anthurium Forgetii?
Anthurium Forgetii can be propagated by division of a clump or by stem cuttings with at least one node and a leaf, ideally in spring between March and May.
Stem cutting with a nodeSelect a healthy stem with at least one node and a mature leaf. Make a clean cut just below the node using our stainless steel straight-blade pruners to prevent crushing the tissue.
Take the cutting with a node, let the cut dry in the open air for 30 minutes to prevent infection.
Place the cutting in a warm location (22 to 26°C), with bright indirect light and humidity above 70%.
Live sphagnum moss is the preferred rooting medium for Anthuriums: it maintains moisture without suffocating the emerging roots. Once the first roots are visible (4 to 8 weeks), transplant into our premium substrate formulated for Anthuriums.
Important tip 🌿Rooting generally takes 4 to 8 weeks. Success is confirmed when a new leaf begins to unfurl, a sign that the roots are well established.
The essentials regarding Anthurium forgetii
Anthurium Forgetii: identity and origin
TheAnthurium forgetii, a tropical plant from the Araceae family, is native to the humid forests of Colombia. Sometimes nicknamed the "sinusless anthurium" due to the completely rounded base of its leaves, it stands out from all other Anthuriums by its unique oval blade, lacking the characteristic notch of the genus. Its graphic foliage, deep green with a velvety feel, is crisscrossed by white or silver veins of remarkable precision.
Anthurium care: light, watering and substrate
The Anthurium appreciates bright indirect light, sheltered from any direct rays. Water when the first 3 to 4 centimeters of the substrate are dry, avoiding any water stagnation. An ambient humidity level above 60% is essential to preserve the velvety texture of the foliage. Use our airy substrate enriched with biostimulants for Anthurium, designed to combine optimal drainage and balanced moisture retention.
Where to place your Anthurium for dense and colorful foliage?
Light: east or west window, at 1 to 2 meters.
Temperature: between 18 and 28°C all year round.
Humidity: humidity maintained above 60%.
Compensation: our complete Care Pack combines a sprayer and leaf care to maintain the moisture and cleanliness of the leaves.
Frequently asked questions: why do Anthurium Forgetii leaves lose their velvety shine?
Anthurium Forgetii leaves dull mainly due to a lack of ambient humidity or lime buildup. This graphic foliage with silver veins reacts very quickly to humidity below 50%: the leaves become dull, the edges turn slightly brown. Use non-hard water and regularly clean the blade with our anti-limescale microfiber gloves. After receipt, let the plant acclimate for 2 to 3 weeks before any repotting.
