In its natural habitat, the undergrowth of Central American rainforests filters light through the canopy. Like all plants of the genus Dieffenbachia, it contains calcium oxalate raphidic crystals in its leaves and stems. These microscopic crystals, released upon biting or ingestion, cause immediate and intense irritation of the oral mucosa, tongue, and throat.

If ingested, the most common symptoms include excessive salivation, tongue swelling, difficulty swallowing, and significant oral pain. These reactions are rarely serious but are very uncomfortable. In pets, the plant's behavior may induce vomiting. Veterinary or medical consultation is still recommended in cases of confirmed ingestion.

What precautions should be taken on a daily basis?

Place the Dieffenbachia Crocodile up high, on a shelf or piece of furniture inaccessible to small children and curious pets.

The leaves of the Dieffenbachia Crocodile most often turn yellow due to overwatering, insufficient light, or a nutrient deficiency.
