French Maritime Pine Bark 4L - Medium Size

These barks come exclusively from French maritime pines, harvested from responsibly managed forests.

Maritime pine has naturally thick, fibrous bark, ideal for drainage. Unlike imported bark, this bark has not undergone long transport that degrades its quality.

The medium caliber (10-25mm) offers a good balance between minimal moisture retention and the creation of air pockets. They are simply dried and sized, without any chemical treatment.

Beware of bark that is too thin, as it decomposes quickly and compacts the substrate instead of aerating it.

Mix the bark into your base substrate in a proportion of 10 to 40% depending on the needs of your plants.

Tropical plants with aerial roots (Monstera, Philodendron, Hoya) love bark-rich substrates because they reproduce their natural epiphytic environment.

Lightly moisten the bark before incorporating it to facilitate mixing and prevent it from absorbing all the water from the first watering.

The most common mistake: using too much bark and creating a substrate that dries out too quickly.

A substrate that drains too well requires very frequent watering, which can stress some plants and leach nutrients. Start with 20% and adjust based on your observations.

Another pitfall: confusing medium and large bark sizes. Thick bark creates gaps that are too large where fine roots cannot anchor themselves.

Never use fresh, undried bark: as it decomposes, it consumes the nitrogen in the substrate and starves your plants.

Maritime pines grow slowly in temperate climates, resulting in dense, tough bark. Fast-growing tropical pines produce softer bark that decomposes quickly.
