About
Hoya Christine, the Hoya with silver, wavy foliage
Hoya Christine, also known as porcelain flower vine or silver wax plant, is a tropical plant native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia. A member of the Apocynaceae family, this Hoya stands out for its thick, fleshy leaves with silvery undertones, randomly speckled with dark green across each blade.
Its variegated, slightly wavy foliage catches the eye at first glance. Each leaf is unique, with silver patterns that vary from one plant to another, giving this climbing plant a particularly refined look. Its naturally trailing growth habit allows it to wind around a support or cascade elegantly from a high shelf, depending on the desired effect.
Our Hoya Christine is available for delivery throughout France. Order now and give your home a distinctive plant, ready to take its place in your tropical collection.

Help and solutions:
Everything you need to know Hey Christine.
What light exposure is right for my Hoya Christine?
The Hoya Christine prefers bright, indirect light, ideally placed 1 to 2 meters from a well-exposed window.
In its natural habitat in Southeast Asia, it grows beneath the canopy of tropical rainforests, filtering sunlight through dense foliage. It therefore appreciates plenty of brightness without ever being exposed to direct sunlight, especially in midsummer.
In winter, move it slightly closer to the window to compensate for the reduced light. In summer, move it further away or place a sheer curtain to diffuse the light if the window faces south.
Important tip 🌿Too little light reduces growth and can dull the characteristic silvery sheen of the Hoya Christine. For rooms with low light, our grow light to maintain active growth faithfully mimics natural light, without harmful UV rays.
Is the Hoya Christine toxic to pets and children?
Hoya Christine is considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, and young children, according to available data on this botanical genus.
Hoyas do not contain substances recognized by the ASPCA as highly dangerous to pets. However, their slightly milky sap may cause mild skin or digestive irritation if large quantities are ingested.
If a child or pet chews the leaves, they may experience temporary digestive discomfort, which is minor in most cases.
What precautions should be taken on a daily basis?
Even though the plant is considered safe, it is still advisable to keep it out of reach of young children and curious pets, especially kittens or puppies that could damage the foliage while playing.
Hoya Christine can therefore safely coexist in a home with pets and children, provided you remain vigilant about the risks associated with the repeated ingestion of plant material.
Why are my Hoya Christine leaves turning yellow?
Hoya Christine leaves most often turn yellow due to overwatering, insufficient light, or a nutrient deficiency.
If the leaves turn yellow and become limp, the problem is generally caused by overwatering, which leads to the early stages of root rot.
If the leaves gradually turn yellow while remaining firm and dry, the plant is often lacking light or fertilizer.
If the yellowing is accompanied by small light-colored spots, a dull appearance, or fine webbing, it may be a spider mite infestation, which is common indoors, especially in dry conditions.
In the Hoya Christine, yellowing leaves are often a sign of poorly managed winter dryness: during the heating season, the warm, dry air accelerates the dehydration of the fleshy leaves, causing localized yellowing that is sometimes accompanied by slight shriveling of the leaf blade.
Important tip 🌿One or two old leaves turning yellow from time to time is completely normal. However, you should be concerned if several leaves turn yellow quickly or if the problem spreads to the young leaves.
The Hoya Christine is ideally repotted in spring, between March and May, when growth actively resumes.
Repotting is necessary when:
roots grow out of the drainage holes,
growth slows down,
or the potting mix compacts too quickly after watering.
As a general rule, repotting every 2 years is sufficient for an adult plant.
After receiving your Hoya Christine, wait 2 to 3 weeks for it to acclimate before considering repotting: this period allows the plant to adapt to its new light and humidity environment without additional stress.
Gently remove the plant from its pot, tapping the pot if necessary.
Gently untangle the roots if they are very compacted, without breaking them.
Place a layer of potting mix, position the plant upright, and fill in without burying the crown.
Important tip 🌿After repotting, water to help settle the potting mix. Repotting every two years is sufficient.
When and how should I fertilize my Hoya Christine?
The Hoya Christine should be fertilized every 2 to 3 weeks from March to October with a liquid fertilizer diluted in the watering water.
From November to February, reduce fertilization significantly or stop it altogether. This is the plant's vegetative dormant period.
Properly balanced fertilization promotes:
denser, more vibrant foliage,
steady growth,
and improved plant resilience.
For the Hoya Christine, regular fertilization during the growing season also supports the formation of flower stalks, the valuable starting points for the umbels that are so characteristic of the genus.
Important tip 🌿Never fertilize a dry potting mix, as this could burn the roots. Water first, then apply the fertilizer 2 to 3 days later.
How to properly water my Hoya Christine?
Water the Hoya Christine when the potting mix has dried out thoroughly, approximately every 10 to 14 days in summer and every 15 to 21 days in winter. Use room-temperature water.
How do you know when to water?
The finger test remains the most reliable method: insert your index finger 2 to 3 cm into the potting mix. If the mix is dry, it is time to water.
Thanks to its thick, fleshy leaves, the Hoya Christine has substantial internal water reserves that allow it to tolerate periods of drought without visible damage—a botanical characteristic to keep in mind when adjusting your watering.
Important tip: If in doubt, wait rather than watering. Plants tolerate a lack of water better than overwatering, which causes root rot.
How do I propagate my Hoya Christine?
Hoya Christine is propagated by stem cuttings with at least one node and one or two leaves, ideally in spring or early summer.
Preparing the cuttingSelect a healthy 8 to 12 cm stem with at least one well-formed internode. Make a clean cut just below a node using our stainless steel pruning shears for a clean and precise cut. Allow the cut to air dry for 30 to 60 minutes to prevent any risk of rot.
Prepare your cutting with a clean cut below a node and remove the lower leaves.
Important tip 🌿Hoya Christine generally takes 4 to 8 weeks to root, depending on the ambient temperature and light. Success is confirmed when new leaves begin to sprout from the node.
The essentials regarding Hey Christine.
Hoya Christine: identity and origin of a silver-foliaged Hoya
Hoya Christine, known scientifically as Hoya sp. Christine, is a tropical climbing plant native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia. Belonging to the Apocynaceae family, it is prized for its thick, fleshy leaves with unique silver splashes on a dark green background. Like all Hoyas, it can produce magnificent fragrant flower umbels on its persistent flower stalks.
Hoya care: light, watering and substrate
Hoya Christine appreciates bright indirect light, about 1 to 2 meters from a well-exposed window. Its infrequent watering respects its real needs: wait until the substrate is completely dry before watering again. To promote root health, opt for our highly draining substrate enriched with biostimulants for Hoyas, designed to prevent root asphyxiation.
Where to place your Hoya for vibrant foliage and regular flowering?
Bright light: east or west window, without direct sunlight.
Temperature: between 16 and 28 °C, away from drafts.
Frequently asked questions: why does my Hoya Christine not flower?
Hoya Christine flowers when its growing conditions are properly respected over time: bright indirect light all year round, a pronounced winter dryness and preserved flower stalks after each cycle are the three key factors. Never cut the flower stalks after flowering because the plant re-flowers from these same points. A regular supply with our liquid fertilizer formulated for Hoyas starting in spring effectively supports the formation of future flower umbels.
