About
Hoya Paziae, the velvety porcelain plant
Hoya Paziae, also known as Hoya de Paz or Paz wax, is a climbing plant native to the tropical forests of the Philippines. Belonging to the Apocynaceae family, this rare species produces thick, fleshy, and slightly velvety leaves, deep green with silvery hues. Its texture resembles matte porcelain, earning it a highly sought-after place among Hoya collectors.
Hoya Paziae stands out for its silky velvety foliage, where each leaf seems hand-sculpted. Its growth is slow but steady, producing flexible stems that naturally wrap around supports. This natural climbing behavior is one of the most fascinating botanical characteristics of this Philippine species, which colonizes tree branches in its natural habitat.
Our Hoya Paziae is available for delivery throughout France. Order yours today to add this velvety rarity to your tropical plant collection.

Help and solutions:
Everything you need to know Hoya Paziae
What light exposure is right for my Hoya paziae?
The Hoya paziae prefers bright indirect light, ideally within one meter of an east- or west-facing window.
In its native Philippine habitat, it grows beneath the tree canopy, meaning it receives plenty of ambient light without ever being exposed to direct sunlight. Replicating these conditions at home is the key to healthy growth.
In summer, move it slightly away from south-facing windows to prevent its velvety leaves from burning. In winter, place it as close as possible to the available source of natural light.
Important tip 🌿Prolonged low light stunts growth and prevents flower stalks from forming. For rooms with limited light, our full-spectrum grow light for houseplants accurately mimics natural light without harmful UV rays.
Is Hoya paziae toxic to animals and children?
Hoya paziae is considered non-toxic to cats, dogs, and young children.
Like most hoyas, this species does not contain any major irritating compounds recognized by veterinary and pediatric databases. It is not among the plants listed by the ASPCA as dangerous to pets.
That said, ingesting large quantities of leaves may cause mild, temporary digestive irritation, particularly in young children or sensitive animals.
What precautions should you take on a daily basis?
Although the risk is low, it is best to keep your Hoya paziae out of reach of young children and curious animals, particularly to preserve the integrity of its velvety leaves.
In the event of accidental ingestion of large quantities, consult your veterinarian or doctor as a precaution. In the vast majority of cases, no special treatment is necessary.
Why are the leaves of my Hoya paziae turning yellow?
Hoya Paziae leaves most often turn yellow due to overwatering, insufficient light, or a nutrient deficiency.
If the leaves turn yellow and become soft, the problem is generally caused by overwatering, which leads to the early stages of root rot.
If the leaves gradually turn yellow while remaining firm and dry, the plant is often lacking light or fertilizer.
If the yellowing is accompanied by small light-colored spots, a dull appearance, or fine webbing, it may be a spider mite infestation, which is common indoors, especially in dry conditions.
Hoya Paziae stores reserves in its fleshy leaves: sudden yellowing of several leaves at once is often the first sign that the growing medium has remained too damp between waterings.
Important tip 🌿One or two old leaves turning yellow from time to time is completely normal. However, you should be concerned if several leaves turn yellow quickly or if the problem spreads to the young leaves.
The Hoya paziae is ideally repotted in spring, between March and May, when growth actively resumes.
Repotting is necessary when:
roots grow out of the drainage holes,
growth slows down,
or the potting mix compacts too quickly after watering.
As a general rule, repotting every 2 years is sufficient for an adult plant.
The Hoya paziae prefers to be slightly snug in its pot: a pot that is too large promotes moisture retention and slows growth, or may even hinder the formation of flower stalks.
After receiving your plant, wait 2 to 3 weeks for it to acclimate before considering repotting, so as not to further stress the roots.
Choose a pot 2 to 3 cm wider than the old one, and make sure it has drainage holes. Our clear, perforated pots for observing the roots after repotting are ideal: their transparency makes it easy to monitor root recovery without disturbing the plant.
Gently remove the plant from its pot, tapping the pot if necessary.
Gently untangle the roots if they are very compact, without breaking them.
Place a layer of potting mix, position the plant upright, and fill in around it without burying the crown.
Important tip 🌿After repotting, water to help settle the potting mix. Repotting every two years is sufficient.
When and how should I fertilize my Hoya paziae?
Fertilize the Hoya paziae every 2 to 3 weeks from March to October with liquid fertilizer diluted in the watering water.
From November to February, reduce fertilization significantly or stop it altogether. This is the plant's vegetative rest period.
Properly dosed fertilizer promotes:
denser, more vibrant foliage,
steady growth,
and greater plant resilience.
As Hoya paziae is a moderately fast-growing species, too much nitrogen fertilizer can promote foliage growth at the expense of flower stalk formation: dose carefully.
Important tip 🌿Never fertilize dry potting mix: this could burn the roots. Water first, then apply the fertilizer 2 to 3 days later.
How to properly water my Hoya paziae?
Water the Hoya Paziae when the potting mix has dried out thoroughly, which is approximately every 10 to 14 days in summer and every 20 to 30 days in winter. Use room-temperature water.
How do you know when to water?
The finger test remains the most reliable method: insert your index finger 2 to 3 cm into the potting mix. If the mix is dry, it is time to water.
Thanks to its fleshy leaves, which naturally store water, the Hoya Paziae tolerates periods of slight dryness well, making it a particularly suitable plant for people who travel or sometimes forget to water.
Important tip: If in doubt, wait rather than watering. Plants tolerate a lack of water better than an excess, which causes root rot.
How do I propagate my Hoya paziae?
Hoya paziae is propagated by stem cuttings, ideally in spring or early summer when growth is active.
Preparing the cuttingSelect a healthy stem with at least 2 nodes and 2 to 3 leaves. Make a clean cut just below a node using our stainless steel straight-tip pruning shears for a clean cut that limits the risk of infection. Let the cut air-dry for 1 to 2 hours before planting.
Prepare your cutting by removing the lower leaves to expose the lower node or nodes.
Important tip 🌿Rooting generally takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the ambient temperature and humidity. The first white roots appear at the nodes: this is the sign that the cutting has been successful.
The essentials regarding Hoya Paziae
Hoya Paziae: identity and origin
Hoya Paziae, known as Paz wax, is a tropical climbing plant from the Apocynaceae family, native to the humid forests of the Philippines. This rare species produces small fragrant flower umbels and is particularly prized for its thick, velvety, deep green foliage. Its fragrant, star-shaped flowers, clustered together, make it a rare and highly sought-after specimen among collectors.
Hoya care: light, watering and substrate
Hoya Paziae thrives in bright indirect light, within one meter of a well-exposed window. Watering every 10 to 14 days during the active season respects its succulent nature. Use our highly draining substrate enriched with biostimulants for Hoyas, designed to promote root aeration and prevent excess moisture.
Where to place your Hoya for dense foliage and beautiful blooms?
Light: east or west window, bright light without direct sun.
Temperature: between 18 and 27 °C, away from cold drafts.
Humidity: maintain a level around 50 to 60% to stimulate growth.
Frequently asked questions: why is my Hoya Paziae not blooming?
Hoya Paziae does not form flower stalks if the light is insufficient or if the substrate remains constantly moist. Make sure to give it at least 4 to 6 hours of bright indirect light per day and let the substrate dry out thoroughly between waterings. Controlled winter dryness, by reducing watering from November to February, is often the natural trigger for spring blooms. Never remove the flower stalks: Hoya Paziae blooms again on the same supports from year to year.
