Help and solutions:

Everything you need to know Set of 5 Ceramic Planters

How do I use and care for my ceramic plant pots?

Our ceramic plant pots can be used without any special modifications: simply place your nursery pot inside.

Ceramic naturally regulates fluctuations in humidity and temperature around the nursery pot, creating a slightly more stable micro-environment than a plastic or metal plant pot. This is a real advantage for plants that are sensitive to temperature fluctuations.

Place your plant pots in any room of the house, depending on the exposure your plant needs. The neutrality of the matte shades makes them suitable for all lighting conditions.

Important tip 🌿Avoid exposing your ceramic plant pots to prolonged direct sunlight outdoors: the matte shades may fade slightly over time. Indoors, they are perfectly suited to all lighting conditions. For low-light rooms, our full-spectrum grow light faithfully mimics natural light, without harmful UV rays.

Is the set of 5 ceramic plant pots safe for pets and children?

The Plant and Stories set of 5 ceramic plant pots is made of fired ceramic stoneware, an inert material that is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and young children.

The glazed or matte ceramic used in our plant pots does not contain any chemical compounds released into the air or through contact. It is stable at room temperature and does not release any volatile substances.

The only point of caution concerns the strength of the material: ceramic can break if dropped and produce sharp shards. Make sure to place your plant pots out of reach of young children and particularly playful pets.

What precautions should be taken on a daily basis?

Place your plant pots on stable, flat surfaces to reduce the risk of accidental falls.

Apart from this mechanical risk, our ceramic plant pots are perfectly suitable for a home with children and pets.

Why does my ceramic plant pot have white deposits or stains?

White spots on a ceramic plant pot most often appear due to limescale in the watering water, excess standing moisture, or mineral residues from the growing medium.

  • If the deposits are white and powdery on the outer surface, they are generally traces of limescale left by water splashes during watering.
  • If the spots appear inside the plant pot, they may be caused by an accumulation of standing water at the bottom, which also promotes mold.
  • If the surface has a dull film that is difficult to remove, the porous ceramic has absorbed dissolved minerals present in the water or growing medium.

As ceramic is a naturally porous material, it is more likely to retain mineral deposits than smooth materials such as glass or brushed metal. Regular cleaning with a damp microfiber cloth is enough to prevent buildup.

Important tip 🌿To remove limescale marks without scratching the surface, use our anti-limescale microfiber cleaning gloves, designed for delicate surfaces. For ingrained deposits, a little diluted white vinegar applied gently effectively dissolves the limescale.

In the event of mold caused by standing water, discover our biological treatment solutions to sanitize your plants' environment.

When and how should you repot a plant into a ceramic pot?

The ceramic cachepot is not a plant pot: there is no need to repot directly into it, as it has no drainage holes.

Repotting into a suitable plant pot is necessary when:

  • roots grow out through the drainage holes of the plant pot,
  • the plant's growth slows down significantly,
  • or the growing medium compacts too quickly after watering.

As a general rule, repotting an adult plant every 2 years is sufficient. After receiving your plant, allow it 2 to 3 weeks to acclimate before considering repotting.

After repotting it into its new plant pot, simply place it in your ceramic cachepot. Our clear plant pots with holes for monitoring root health are ideal: their transparency allows you to check the condition of the roots without removing the plant from the cachepot.

We recommend our premium growing mediums made in France, designed for drainage, aeration, and healthy growth.

  1. Gently remove the plant from its pot, tapping the pot if necessary.
  2. Gently untangle the roots if they are very compacted, without breaking them.
  3. Place a layer of growing medium, position the plant upright, and fill in around it without burying the crown.

Important tip 🌿After repotting, water to help settle the growing medium. Then check that no water is sitting at the bottom of the ceramic cachepot.

When and how should I care for my ceramic planters throughout the seasons?

Our ceramic cache-pots do not require fertilization: they simply hold your plant's nursery pot. Seasonal maintenance involves cleaning and checking the condition of the cache-pot.

In spring and summer, take advantage of your plants' growing season to inspect the inside of the cache-pot and remove any residue of standing water or fallen substrate during watering.

Regular maintenance promotes:

  • an exterior surface that is always clean and enhances your decor,
  • a healthy environment for your plants' roots,
  • and increased durability of the ceramic.

In autumn and winter, reduce the frequency of watering your plants to limit the risk of water accumulation in the cache-pots.

👉 To fertilize your plants and complete your routine, we recommend our concentrated liquid fertilizer for tropical plants, easy to dose, with quickly visible results.

Important tip 🌿Never apply fertilizer directly in the cache-pot: always add the fertilizer to the watering water, in your plant's nursery pot.

How should you water your plants when they are in ceramic pots?

When your plants are in ceramic cachepots, always water directly into the nursery pot, never into the cachepot, and make sure that excess water does not collect at the bottom.

How to check that water is not collecting?

After watering, gently tilt the cachepot to check that no water has collected at the bottom. Prolonged waterlogging promotes root rot, even in a ceramic cachepot.

Ceramic naturally regulates a slight level of humidity around the nursery pot thanks to its porosity, which can slightly space out watering needs compared to a sealed plastic cachepot.

Important tip: If in doubt, wait rather than watering. Plants tolerate a lack of water better than too much, which causes root rot.

How can I clean and care for my ceramic planters over the long term?

Our ceramic planters are easy to care for with a few simple steps, performed regularly to preserve their matte finish and natural luster.

Regular cleaningWipe the exterior surface with our limescale-resistant microfiber gloves for delicate surfaces slightly moistened. This weekly step prevents the buildup of dust and limescale marks.

  1. Carefully remove the plant pot from the ceramic planter.
  2. Rinse the inside of the planter with warm water and wipe with a clean cloth.
  3. Let air dry before placing the plant pot back inside, using our suitable clear pots to monitor root growth if necessary.

For stubborn limescale deposits, apply a little 50% diluted white vinegar with a soft cloth, leave to work for 5 minutes, then rinse with clean water. Avoid abrasive sponges that could scratch the matte surface of the ceramic.

Important tip 🌿Store your empty planters away from impacts and in a dry place. Ceramic is sensitive to sudden temperature changes: avoid moving a planter from cold to hot too quickly, as this could cause microcracks.

The essentials regarding Set of 5 Ceramic Planters

Set of 5 ceramic plant pots: identity and characteristics

The set of 5 ceramic plant pots from Plant and Stories is a collection of fired stoneware containers designed to dress your indoor plants with elegance. Ceramic, a natural material made from clay fired at high temperatures, has been used since antiquity to preserve and display plants. These five plant pots with matte finishes and soft shades form a coherent, modular, and timeless set.

Care for the plant pots: use, cleaning, and compatibility

Ceramic plant pots are used without drainage holes: simply slide your plant pot inside. Clean the surface regularly with a damp cloth. Check after each watering that no water is stagnant at the bottom. Compatible with our premium substrate range, each plant pot can be accompanied by a substrate adapted to your plant.

Where to place your plant pots for an optimal decorative result?

  • Living room or office: group 3 different sizes for a balanced plant composition.
  • Bathroom: ceramic withstands the natural ambient humidity of the room well.
  • Windowsill: favor small formats with light-loving plants.
  • Dark rooms: combine with our full-spectrum grow light to keep your plants healthy.

Frequently asked questions: how to avoid water stagnation in a ceramic plant pot?

Water stagnation is the main point of vigilance with a plant pot without a drainage hole. After each watering, slightly tilt the plant pot to check for the absence of accumulated water at the bottom. Our transparent plant pots with holes are ideal for controlling root moisture without repotting the plant. Prolonged stagnation promotes root rot, even in a quality ceramic container.
