About
Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix: Choice of surprise plants in terracotta pots for a vibrant desert collection
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix is a set of 6 succulents carefully selected for their diverse shapes, textures, and silhouettes. Commonly known as succulents, desert plants, or succulents, these species belong to various genera such as Echeveria, Mammillaria, or Haworthia, originating from the arid regions of Central America, South Africa, and the Mediterranean basin. Each plant is delivered in an 8 cm terracotta pot, a naturally porous material that promotes the drainage of excess moisture and prevents water from stagnating around the roots.
This set offers a striking palette of shapes: spiny globes, fleshy rosettes, columnar stems, or fan-shaped leaves. The foliage ranges from deep green to silvery gray, sometimes with burgundy or bluish hues depending on the amount of sunlight received. Each specimen has a unique plant structure and develops differently throughout the seasons, offering a natural and changing display on a shelf, windowsill, or sunny desk.
Our surprise Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix is available for delivery throughout France. Add this set of 6 plants to your collection and have them delivered directly to your home, carefully packaged for a safe journey.

Everything you need to know about Mini Cactus & Succulent Mix - 8cm Pot - Height: 5-10 cm - terracotta pots
What light exposure is right for my Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix?
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix prefers bright, direct or slightly filtered light, ideally for several hours a day.
In their natural habitat, these plants grow in very sunny, arid environments: the desert regions of Central America, the rocky savannas of South Africa, or the dry slopes of the Mediterranean basin. Indoors, a south or southwest-facing window is perfect for them all year round.
In summer, you can expose them directly to the morning or evening sun. However, avoid midday sun through a window, which can concentrate the heat and burn the spines or foliage. In winter, place them as close as possible to the source of natural light.
Important tip 🌿Prolonged lack of light leads to etiolation: the stems stretch out and lose their characteristic compact shape. For low-light interiors, our full-spectrum grow light for indoor plants faithfully mimics natural light, without harmful UV rays.
Is the Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix toxic to pets and children?
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix has varying toxicity depending on the species included in the set, but the majority of common cacti and succulents are considered non-toxic or mildly toxic to cats, dogs, and young children.
The main risk does not come from chemical toxicity but from the spines and prickles, which are particularly prevalent on cacti. An accidental prick can cause pain, skin irritation, or a mild reaction if the spines penetrate the skin. Some Euphorbiaceae, sometimes sold as succulents, contain an irritating latex, but this type of species is generally not included in the standard mixes in this set.
In the event that a young child or pet ingests the potting mix or leaves, mild nausea or digestive irritation may occur. In the vast majority of cases, these symptoms remain mild and temporary.
What precautions should be taken on a daily basis?
Place the pots out of reach of young children and cats, especially to avoid contact with the spines during play. A high shelf or an elevated windowsill makes for an ideal location.
If in doubt about a specific species, consult your veterinarian or the nearest poison control center. Keeping this set in a home with pets remains entirely feasible, provided it is placed thoughtfully.
Why are the leaves of my Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix turning yellow?
The leaves of the Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix most often turn yellow due to overwatering, a lack of light, or a nutrient deficiency.
If the leaves turn yellow and become soft, the problem is generally caused by too much water, which leads to the beginning of root rot.
If the leaves gradually turn yellow while remaining firm and dry, the plant is often lacking light or fertilizer.
If the yellowing is accompanied by small light-colored spots, a dull appearance, or fine webs, it may be a spider mite infestation, which is common indoors, especially in dry conditions.
For fleshy-leaved succulents such as Echeveria or Haworthia, yellowing at the base of the rosettes accompanied by softening of the lower leaves is almost always a sign of watering too frequently: the water reserves naturally stored in the leaves are saturated and the tissue becomes necrotic.
Important tip 🌿One or two old leaves turning yellow from time to time is completely normal. However, you should be concerned if several leaves turn yellow quickly or if the phenomenon spreads to the young leaves.
When and how should I repot my Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix?
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix is ideally repotted in spring, between March and May, when growth actively resumes.
Repotting is necessary when:
roots grow out through the drainage holes,
growth slows down,
or the growing medium compacts too quickly after watering.
As a general rule, repotting every 2 years is sufficient for an adult plant.
As the cacti and succulents in this set are small (8 cm pots), their root growth is slow: repotting every 2 to 3 years is generally sufficient, provided the mineral-based growing medium remains well-draining.
Choose a pot 2 to 3 cm wider than the old one, and make sure it has drainage holes. Our clear pots with holes for observing roots after repotting are ideal: their transparency makes it easy to monitor root recovery without disturbing the plant.
Carefully remove the plant from its pot, tapping the pot if necessary, and wear gloves to protect yourself from spines.
Gently loosen the roots if they are very compacted, without breaking them.
Place a layer of growing medium, position the plant upright, and fill in around it without burying the crown.
Important tip 🌿After repotting, wait 7 to 10 days before watering to allow any root injuries to heal. Repotting every two years is sufficient.
When and how should I fertilize my Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix?
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix should be fertilized every 2 to 3 weeks from March to October, using a liquid fertilizer diluted in the watering water.
From November to February, reduce fertilization significantly or stop it altogether. This is the period of vegetative dormancy.
Properly dosed fertilization promotes:
denser, more colorful foliage,
steady growth,
and greater plant resilience.
As cacti and succulents are naturally adapted to poor soils, use half the dose recommended on the packaging: too much fertilizer causes etiolation and weakens the plant over time.
Important tip 🌿Never fertilize dry soil: this could burn the roots. Water first, then apply the fertilizer 2 to 3 days later.
How to properly water my Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix?
Water the Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix when the substrate has dried out completely deep down, which is approximately every 10 to 14 days in summer and every 3 to 5 weeks in winter. Use room-temperature water.
How do you know when to water?
The finger test remains the most reliable method: insert your index finger 2 to 3 cm into the substrate. If the substrate is dry, it's time to water.
Unlike most houseplants, cacti and succulents naturally store water in their fleshy tissues and roots: they easily tolerate several weeks without watering, especially during the winter period of vegetative dormancy.
Important tip: If in doubt, wait rather than watering. Plants tolerate a lack of water better than an excess, which causes root rot.
How do I propagate my Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix?
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix is propagated using different methods depending on the species present, ideally in spring or early summer when growth is active.
Propagating rosette succulents (Echeveria, Haworthia...)Detach a healthy leaf at the base by gently twisting it, or take an entire rosette with a clean cut using our stainless steel straight-tip pruning shears for a clean and neat cut. Let the cut air-dry for 24 to 48 hours before placing it in the substrate, in order to form a protective callus.
Prepare the cutting and let it callus in the ambient air, away from direct sunlight, for 24 to 48 hours.
Start watering very lightly after 7 to 10 days, only when roots are visible or the seedling resists a light tug.
For cacti, take a segment or a secondary stem with a clean cut, let it dry for 48 to 72 hours, then place it on our universal substrate enriched with biostimulants, ideal for rooting succulents.
Important tip 🌿Rooting generally takes 3 to 6 weeks depending on the species and ambient temperature. Do not cover cactus or succulent cuttings: excessive humidity promotes rot rather than rooting.
The essentials about Mini Cactus & Succulent Mix - 8cm Pot - Height: 5-10 cm - terracotta pots
Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix: identity and origin
The Mini Cactus and Succulent Mix is a set of 6 succulents from various botanical families, notably the Cactaceae, the Crassulaceae and the Asphodelaceae, originating from the arid regions of Central America, Southern Africa and the Mediterranean basin. These species have developed exceptional water-storage capabilities in their fleshy tissues, allowing them to survive prolonged periods of drought. Each plant is delivered in an 8 cm terracotta pot, with a height between 5 and 10 cm.
Cactus and Succulent Care: light, watering and substrate
These plants require as much bright direct or slightly filtered light as possible, with a south-facing window being ideal. Very infrequent watering is essential: wait until the substrate is completely dry before watering, every 2 to 4 weeks depending on the season. For optimal drainage, use our mineral substrate enriched with essential nutrients, designed to promote drought resistance and healthy growth.
Where to place your Cacti and Succulents for compact and colorful foliage?
South or southwest window: ideal exposure, several hours of direct light.
Desk or shelf: near an intense source of natural light.
Windowsill: elevated, out of reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions: why is my cactus stretching and losing its compact shape?
This phenomenon, called etiolation, frequently affects cacti and succulents lacking sufficient natural light. When the plant does not receive enough bright direct light, it elongates its stems to capture more, thus losing its compact and characteristic silhouette. Moving it gradually towards a sunnier window or using a grow light is generally enough to stop this process. After receiving it, wait 2 to 3 weeks for it to acclimatize to its permanent environment before repotting.
