Help and solutions:

Everything you need to know Pack of 3 transparent plant supports + 1m of free Velcro tape - Support for climbing plants

Why is acrylic suitable for houseplants?

Acrylic is an inert material that does not release any substances into the substrate or when in contact with moisture.

Unlike wood or bamboo, it does not mold or become a haven for pests. Its transparency allows light to pass through without creating shaded areas on leaves near the support.

UV resistant, it won't yellow over time, even near a sunny window. Simply avoid strong impacts, as acrylic can crack under a sudden blow.

How do I properly attach the Velcro without damaging my plant?

Wrap the Velcro in a flexible figure eight around the stem and the support, never tighten it directly on the plant.

This technique allows space for growth and prevents the stem from gradually becoming constricted. Check the ties monthly: a stem that grows quickly can become compressed within a few weeks.

Place the Velcro under a knot or leaf for a natural hold. Never use wire or thin string, which would cut into the tender bark of young shoots.

Which plants benefit most from a transparent support?

Plants with climbing or creeping growth benefit most from a support: Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron, Syngonium and Epipremnum being prime examples.

These species naturally develop aerial roots that seek support to anchor themselves. A vertical stake mimics the tree trunks of their natural habitat and stimulates the production of larger, more deeply lobed leaves.

Trailing plants like Scindapsus can also be trained to create a bushy effect. However, rosette-forming plants like Calathea do not require staking.

My tutor is leaning or falling over, what should I do?

An unstable support usually indicates a substrate that is too light or a pot that is too small relative to the height of the support.

Insert the stake at least 10-15 cm deep and lightly firm the soil around the base. If the pot is shallow, choose a taller container or weigh down the bottom with clay pebbles.

For heavy plants, place the stake against the inside of the pot for extra support. Avoid staking a freshly repotted plant: wait until the roots have stabilized the potting mix.

How can this tutor be combined with other accessories for better results?

Wrap the tutor withliving sphagnum mossheld in place by Velcro to create a moist support that attracts aerial roots.

Regularly spray the sphagnum moss with afine mist sprayerto maintain humidity. This combination accelerates anchoring and promotes vigorous growth.

Feed the plant with aliquid fertilizerduring the growth period to support vertical development.

What is the difference with a foam or coconut fiber support?

Coconut or foam supports offer a porous surface where aerial roots can anchor, but they retain moisture and can mold or attract midges.

The transparent support does not replace this root anchoring function; it serves only as a structural guide. Its advantage lies in its visual discretion and zero maintenance.

To combine the two approaches, wrap live sphagnum moss around the acrylic support: you get an aesthetic, moist support that is easy to clean or partially replace.

Transparent plant support or bamboo plant support: which one to choose for your plants?

Bamboo supports are natural but visually cumbersome, making them difficult to integrate into a well-designed plant arrangement without drawing attention. Plant and Stories' transparent plant support for climbing plants is virtually invisible in the pot, showcasing the plant without any visual distraction. Its rigid acrylic construction ensures superior, long-lasting support compared to bamboo, which cracks and bends with moisture and repeated watering over several seasons.
