Help and solutions:

Everything you need to know Hoya Premium Potting Soil - Enriched with Mycorrhizae and Bacillus - Made in France

What is the exact composition of this Hoya potting soil?

This substrate combines quality French potting soil, perlite, maritime pine bark, fertilizers and biostimulants.

This combination replicates the natural environment of Hoya plants, which grow clinging to trees in tropical forests. The bark creates an airy structure while the perlite ensures constant drainage.

Mycorrhizae and Bacillus are incorporated to colonize the roots from the time of repotting and stimulate their development.

Avoid adding sand or garden soil, which would compact this carefully balanced mixture.

How do I use this substrate to repot my Hoya?

Choose a pot with drainage holes, only slightly larger than the current one. Place a layer of substrate at the bottom, position your Hoya, then fill in the gaps without compacting the soil.

Hoyas prefer to be slightly root-bound: a pot that is too large retains moisture and promotes root rot. Water moderately after repotting to activate beneficial microorganisms.

Repot preferably in spring, when the plant resumes its active growth.

Do not repot a Hoya when it is in bud or in flower, you risk causing them to fall off.

Why do Hoya plants need a specific substrate?

Hoyas are epiphytic plants: in their natural habitat, they grow attached to trees, their roots exposed to the air. They need a very well-draining substrate that dries quickly between waterings.

Conventional potting soil retains too much water and deprives the roots of oxygen. The maritime pine bark in our substrate replicates this essential airy texture.

Mycorrhizae compensate for this rapid drainage by helping the roots to efficiently capture available water and nutrients.

An unsuitable substrate is the primary cause of failure with Hoya, even among experienced gardeners.

My Hoya has rotting roots, can this substrate help?

Yes, provided you act quickly. Remove your Hoya from its pot, carefully remove all the old substrate, and cut off any soft or brown roots with a disinfected tool.

Allow the roots to air dry for a few hours before repotting in this fresh substrate. Its drainage structure and protective Bacillus bacteria will help prevent reinfection.

Reduce watering after repotting: wait until the substrate is dry to a depth of several centimeters before watering again.

Never leave stagnant water in the saucer, this is the main cause of rot in Hoya plants.

What products should I use with this potting soil to optimize the growth of my Hoya?

Aarch tutorIt helps to guide the long stems and promotes flowering by better exposing the foliage to light.

Complete with ourliquid fertilizerOnce a month in spring and summer. The substrate's biostimulants work in synergy with this nutrient input.

Asprayeris useful for maintaining good humidity without wetting the substrate.

Avoid over-fertilizing: Hoyas are frugal plants that flower best with moderate nutrition.

What is the difference between this Hoya potting soil and a universal substrate?

OURuniversal substrateSuitable for most houseplants, but Hoyas have special requirements that only this specific potting mix can meet.

The proportion of maritime pine bark is higher here, creating a much more aerated structure. Drainage is faster, which corresponds to the natural cycle of Hoya trees: tropical rains followed by dry periods.

The selected mycorrhizae are particularly adapted to the epiphytic roots of Hoya.

If you also grow Monstera or Philodendron, ourMonstera substrateThey will be better suited to them.

The essentials regarding Hoya Premium Potting Soil - Enriched with Mycorrhizae and Bacillus - Made in France

What is Hoya Premium substrate?

THEHoya Premium substrateThis is a growing medium specially formulated to meet the needs of Hoya and epiphytic plants requiring a very well-draining substrate. Made in France from a balanced selection of organic and mineral materials, this Hoya substrate incorporates microscopic fungi that enhance root absorption, as well as natural microorganisms that strengthen the plant's defenses. Its light and highly porous structure replicates the natural growing conditions of Hoya in tropical rainforests.

Properties and role of the Hoya substrate in cultivation

THEwell-draining substrate for epiphytic plantsIt is designed to quickly drain excess water while retaining just enough moisture to nourish sensitive aerial roots. Its open granules allow air to circulate freely between waterings, significantly reducing the risk of root rot, the number one problem for Hoya grown indoors. Enriched with active biostimulants, it supports recovery after repotting and promotes the development of flower stalks within a few weeks.

Which plants benefit from Hoya Premium substrate?

  • Hoya carnosa and kerrii:Optimal drainage for sensitive epiphytic roots
  • Hoya bella et linearis:Aerated substrate for fine-leaved species
  • Dischidia and Ceropegia:structured medium for delicate climbing plants
  • Rhipsalis and epiphytic cacti:draining base suitable for quick drying
  • Epipremnum and Pothos:Lightweight substrate for aerial root plants

Hoya substrate vs universal mix: why does the difference matter?

A universal potting mix retains too much moisture for Hoyas, which need a medium that dries quickly between waterings to prevent root asphyxiation. Our Hoya Premium potting mix, made in France, is formulated with a precise ratio of mineral and organic components to respect this natural drying cycle. This fine-tuning, impossible with a general-purpose potting mix, explains why Hoyas grown in a specialized substrate thrive better and flower more regularly.
