About
Tayberry: the fruity hybrid that delights the garden from spring to autumn
The Tayberry (Rubus × loganobaccus) is a remarkably productive hardy fruiting plant, bred by crossing a raspberry with a blackberry. Its long climbing canes naturally cover walls, trellises and fences, while its elongated purple-red berries are delicious eaten fresh or made into homemade jams and pies.
Flowering and fruiting: sweetly scented, pollinator-friendly pinkish-white spring flowers are followed by large, juicy, dark-purple berries from summer to early autumn, with a sweet, slightly tart flavour.
Foliage: deciduous, bright green leaves divided into the characteristic leaflets of the genus Rubus, providing lovely natural texture throughout the growing season.
Position: full sun is essential for an abundant crop and sweet, flavoursome berries.
Hardiness: fully hardy, the Tayberry can overwinter outdoors in the ground in our climate without any special protection.
Uses: ideal for training on a trellis, planting at the back of a fruiting border, growing as a productive hedge or planting in a large container on a sunny terrace with a support.
Supplied as: a set of 2 plants, in 15 cm pots, 50 cm tall, ready to plant on arrival.

Everything You Need to Know About Blackberry (bramble) ‘Tayberry’ (Rubus fruticosus) – hardy soft fruit – 15 cm pot – 50 cm tall – Pack of 2
Is the Tayberry really hardy, and can it stay in the ground all year round?
Yes, the Loganberry (Rubus × loganobaccus) is a fully hardy fruit plant that overwinters in the ground without special protection in the vast majority of French regions. Its underground rhizomes easily withstand typical winter frosts, and new shoots grow vigorously in spring. In mountainous areas or in pots, a thick layer of dead leaves or wood chips applied to the rhizomes in November will be enough to protect the basal buds from the most severe cold.
What is the difference between a Tayberry and a regular raspberry or blackberry?
The blackberry-raspberry is an interspecific hybrid (Rubus × loganobaccus) resulting from the cross between the raspberry (Rubus idaeus) and the cultivated blackberry (Rubus fruticosus). It combines the delicate aroma and sweetness of the raspberry with the size and juiciness of the blackberry: its elongated fruits, dark purple when ripe, are significantly larger than those of a classic raspberry. The taste is sweet with a slight hint of tartness that red fruit lovers particularly enjoy. Unlike the raspberry, the blackberry-raspberry retains its receptacle (like the blackberry) when picked.
How to plant a Tayberry and what support to provide?
Plant the Mûroise in autumn or spring in a sunny location, in a planting hole enriched with well-rotted compost. Space two plants 1.50 m to 2 m apart to give them enough room. Even before planting, install a sturdy support: a trellis attached to a wall or fence, wires stretched between posts at heights of 50, 100 and 150 cm, or a wooden palisade. Its flexible and vigorous stems (up to'2 m in length) must be tied regularly throughout the season to prevent any tangling.
When and how should you prune the Tayberry to get a good harvest?
Pruning of the Loganberry (Rubus × loganobaccus) is carried out after the summer harvest, generally between August and October. The principle is simple: using secateurs, remove entirely at ground level all the canes that have produced fruit this year (they are darker in colour and often exhausted). Carefully preserve the young, vigorous green canes of the year, train them horizontally or in a fan shape on your support, and slightly shorten their tips to encourage branching. These are the ones that will bear the next harvest.
Can the Tayberry (Mûroise) be grown in a pot on a balcony or terrace?
Yes, the Mûroise can certainly be grown in a pot on a terrace or a large sunny balcony, provided that a few requirements are met. Choose a pot d'of at least 40 to 50 liters, filled w'ith a well-draining mixture of multipurpose potting soil and compost, and install a sturdy support (wall trellis or conical stake) to guide the stems. W'atering must be more frequent than'in the ground, because the potting mix dries out quickly: check the'moisture two to three times a week in summer.
When does the Tayberry produce its fruit and how can it be used?
The redcurrant bush begins to bear fruit as early as late spring with its pretty, highly melliferous pink and white flowers, then the berries form and ripen gradually from June to August depending on the regions and climatic conditions. The fruit is ready to pick when'it turns from bright red to a deep violet-purple and detaches easily from its receptacle. Eaten fresh, the berries are delicious as they are or in a fruit salad. They are perfect for jam (their natural pectin content makes it set easily), coulis, tarts, crumbles and smoothies.
How to pair the Tayberry with other plants in the garden?
The Mûroise f'its perfectly into an informal fruit garden or a kitchen garden-orchard alongside o'ther small fruits: raspberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants or blueberries share similar cultural needs and create a highly productive picking area. For ornamental associations, its white-pink spring flowers pair well with pollinator-friendly perennials such as culinary sage, lavender or c'oneflower, which attract the same pollinators and extend the visual interest of the border.
The essentials about Blackberry (bramble) ‘Tayberry’ (Rubus fruticosus) – hardy soft fruit – 15 cm pot – 50 cm tall – Pack of 2
Tayberry Blackberry (Rubus × loganobaccus): characteristics and benefits
The Tayberry Blackberry, also known as Tayberry (Rubus × loganobaccus), is a vigorous climbing fruit bush resulting from a cross between a raspberry and a cultivated blackberry. Developed in Scotland in the 1970s, it quickly became one of the most generous and flavorful berries in the garden. Its vigorous, fast-growing stems can reach 2 m in length in a single season and bear large, elongated purple-purple berries from early summer, with a sweet and slightly tart taste, significantly larger than those of a classic raspberry.
Where to plant the Tayberry Blackberry? Exposure and hardiness
The Tayberry Blackberry requires full sun: a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight per day is necessary to obtain abundant and well-ripened fruit. Orient your planting to the south or southwest, ideally against a wall or fence that reflects heat and provides a natural support for trellising. To explore other productive fruit bushes and berry shrubs, see our selection of ornamental and fruit trees and shrubs available directly from our partner nurseries.
How to care for the Tayberry Blackberry?
Soil: moist, well-drained, slightly acidic (pH 5.5 to 6.5), enriched with compost at planting. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils.
Watering: regular during summer fruiting, but never in excess. A thick layer of mulch at the base of the stems reduces evaporation and protects the shallow roots.
Pruning: after each harvest, remove the stems that have fruited at ground level and properly trellis the young stems of the year. This annual renewal pruning is essential for sustained production.
Exposure: strict full sun. In partial shade, fruit production is greatly reduced and the berries remain tart.
Tayberry Blackberry in the garden: flowering, fruiting and associations
The Tayberry Blackberry offers decorative appeal and delicious fruit throughout the entire growing season. In spring, its delicate pink-white flowers brighten up trellises and attract a multitude of pollinators, actively contributing to the ecological balance of the garden. From June, the first fruits color the stems bright red before turning a deep purple-purple at full maturity, creating a striking visual effect. Depending on weather conditions, the abundant harvest continues through August.
